The National eLearning Center (NeLC) participated in Open Education Week (OE Week), held annually from March 7 to 11. This participation highlights NeLC’s national role as an enabler and regulator of the Open Educational Resources (OER) ecosystem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reinforcing efforts to broaden access to knowledge and promoting lifelong learning.
NeLC’s participation reflects its ongoing efforts to foster a culture of open education and empower institutions and individuals to leverage open educational content within approved regulatory frameworks and quality standards. These efforts contribute to advancing flexible learning pathways and developing national skills, in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to build a knowledge-based economy. To date, more than 83,000 open educational resources across various fields and disciplines are available through the OERx platform.
As part of its engagement, NeLC organized a webinar entitled: “From Open Content to Personalized Pathways: OER and AI for Lifelong Learning”. The session brought together leading experts and specialists to discuss the integration of AI technologies in designing personalized learning pathways based on open resources, and to explore ways to expand their impact in supporting self-directed and continuous learning.
It is worth noting that the OERx platform is one of the key enablers of the National Open Educational Resources Program, supervised by NeLC. The program regulates and facilitates the publication of OERs, grants the required licenses, and enhances integration among institutions. This contributes to the development of high-quality open digital content, enhances the reliability of eLearning, and ensures sustainable and accessible learning opportunities for all.
